Sab Ek Charagh Ke Parwane Hona Chahte Hain!

(Sab Ek Charag Ke Parwane Hona Chahte Hain) - Everyone To Be A Moth of a Same Lamp Wants - Asad Badayuni  Asad Badayuni in this ghazal is telling about love and beloved. He says that it's craziness that every lover wants to love the same beloved(lady love). He describes further implication of this love and indicate that he too is in the line if gets a chance. I read it recently and decided to translate it to make it reach a wider audience. This ghazal is further elaborated here. ' Sab Ek Charag Ke By Asad Badayuni  सब इक चराग़ के परवाने होना चाहते हैं  अजीब लोग हैं दीवाने होना चाहते हैं  Sab Ek Charag Ke Parwane Hona Chahte Hain, Ajeeb Log Hain Diwane Hona Chahte Hain. everyone to be a moth of a same lamp wants, weird people to be crazy they wants. Na Jaane Kis Liye Khushiyun Se Bhar Chuke Hain Dil, Makan Ab Ye Aza-Khane Hona Chahte Hain. Chupke Chupke Raat Din

(Chupke Chupke Raat Din)  Hasrat Mohani who gave us the famous slogan of independence struggle  'Inquilab Zindabad' (Long Live Revolution ) has wrote this ghazal which is also used in 1982 Hindi film Nikaah. This ghazal is like someone remembering the old days of love, togetherness and romance. The poet is recalling things from the past to affirm that he still knew about those happenings thus confirming his evergreen love. I have translated this famous ghazal and one of my longest translation   in hope it reach many more people to cherish. Chupke-Chupke Raat Din Aansu Bahana Yaad Hai, Hum Ko Ab Tak Aashiqui Ka Wo Zamana Yaad Hai. To shed tears day & night silently, I remember, that period of love even now, I remember. Ba-Hazaran Iztirab Au Sad-Hazaran Ishtiyaq, Tujh Se Wo Pehle-Pehal Dil Ka

Aagah Apni Maut Se Koi Bashar Nahin

( Aagah Apni Maut Se Koi Bashar Nahin) - No One Is Aware Of Their Own Death - Hairat Allahabadi My brother often quote the first sher of this ghazal from a long time. One day I found that it was part of a ghazal written by Hairat Allahabadi so I decided to translate it. In this ghazal the poet is showing his dare devilry by raising points like he don't fear death, he not fearful of others and things like that. He is showing his power to love without any fear. I hope you will like this translation. Aagah Apni Maut Se Koi Bashar Nahin, Saman Sau Baras Ka Pal Ki Khabar Nahin. No one is aware of their own death, things are hundred years old, no news of the moment's strength. Aa Jaen Rob-ae-Ghair Mein Hum Wo Bashar Nahin, Kuch Aap Ki Tarah Hamein Logon Ka Dar Nahin. Chaap Tilak Sab Cheeni Re Mose Naina Milaike

(ChaapTilak Sab Chini Re Mose Naina Milaike) - You Have Taken Away My Looks,My Identity By Just A Glance - Amir Khusro Amir Khusro is a great Sufi poet and disciple of Nizammuddin Auliya. Mostly his creations are in devotion of his Nizam (master) and they are portrayed in a way a beloved is talking about her lover. That worldly love known to people is used as metaphors by him to tell his heavenly love to God or to his master. I have shared here one of his famous 'Ghazal' sung as qawwali by many Indian and Pakistani Singers. In this he said that by just a glance a heavenly look his master has taken away all from him. He said that his identity is dissolved in Him with that look; they both have become one.  Elaborated Here.

O love your results brought tear to my eyes Don't know why your mention today make me cry. Yun To Har Shaam Ummedon Mein Guzar Jaati Hai, Aaj Kuch Baat Hai Jo Chand Pe Rona Aaya. Every evening passed like this in hopes dry, There's something today that this evening made me cry. Kabhi Taqdeer Ka Matam Kabhi D

Khayaal Revisited

(Thought) How lover forget himself in love is expressed in this bilingual Ghazal first written on 9th Feb 2012. In need to refresh my earlier Ghazals I am revisiting them again and making changes if possible to beautify them. This endeavor is to introduce my new readers to my previous works. Hope they will like it too. image by: Anna Pavlova(500px.com) Jab Bhi Tera Khyal Aata Hai Mein Khud Ko Bhool Jata Hun, Tanha Baitha-Baitha Hole Se Muskurata Hun. Whenever I think of  you,to myself I forgets smile slowly in loneliness. Sach Tere Khayal Mein Khud Ko Bhool Jaata Hun. I think

Wo Dil Hi Kya Tire Milne Ki Jo Dua Na Kare

Wo Dil Hi Kya Tere Milne Ki Jo Dua Na Kare - Qateel Shifai This is ' Qateel Shifai ' love ghazal where he is praying to die than to live in separation. In all stanzas he is demanding death or destruction or something like that for not getting love. The famous ' Sher ' from this ghazal ' Ye Theek Hai ........Juda Na Kare ' (third stanza) he is saying that no one die in love but even though no one should be separated as he know the pain of it. I have translated it here and hope you will like it. Wo Dil Hi Kya Tere Milne Ki Jo Dua Na Kare, Mein Tujh Ko Bhul Ke Zinda Rahun Khuda Na Kare. That heart is useless which don't pray for meeting with you, God forbid that I live after forgetting you. Rahega Saath Tera Pyaar Zindagi Ban Kar, Ye Aur Baat Meri Zindagi Waf

Subah Ho Jaaye Revisited

Subah Ho Jaaye Revisited (सुबह हो जाए) This the second post I shared on this blog in 31st August 2012. Like earlier sharing of old poem in this one two I have made changes which I thought suitable after gaining experience. This Ghazal is praising the beloved's beauty and charm. I hope you will like this one too. Tu Jedhar Chahe Nikal Jaaye Subah Ho Jaaye, Gham Jitne Bhi Hain Saare Hawa Ho Jaaen. Where ever you go it's morning, all sorrows take a drowning. Tere Kadmon Ki Chahat Mein Zamin Bichti Hai, Tere Didar Ko Hi Suraj Sar Par Aaye. Ground make way to seek your steps, sun rises, so your glimpse he may grasp. Na Muskura Ke Patjhad Ka Mausam Hai Abhi, Kahin Phool Khilne Ko Na Machal Jaaen. Don't smile now as it is autumn, flower may bloom being that forgotten खुले

Literature in Motion #1 DDLJ

Literature in Motion #1 DDLJ Movies considered as Literature in Motion and keeping that concept in mind I am trying here to present that literature in a poem. Its an experiment and what better than all time favorite magnum opus Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaenge (DDLJ) to start this. I have tried to poetically display Raj & Simran's love story in hope that you will like it.  A girl full of hopes & dream, a boy with fun & gleam met in a Euro rail trip. girl missed the train, boy do the same, there life then flip. Girl was on vacation but on her father's condition, in India she has to marry in her father's relation. Raj (boy) &  Simran's  (girl) love bloomed, in journey but it never groomed. they left each-other there love untold, they left forever there love untold. Raj realized and went to her to express, however they went to India to avoid distress. sad in her memory his charm gone, his father encouraged 'get her come on' In India they met, she told t

Pyaar Ki Raah Chune

(Pyaar Ki Raah Chune) Season of love starts with valentine week i.e the various days denoted to express your feelings for somebody. Feb 7 is Rose Day, Feb 8 is Propose Day then comes Chocolate Day, Teddy Day, Promise Day, Hug Day, Kiss Day and finally Valentine Day from 9th to 14th February respectively. I believe that love needs no day to express but in the popular culture if we have a dedicated day for it enjoy it fully with your loved one. Here in this Hindi poem there is a conversation between a boy and a girl of expressing their love for each other. They think that the world and the society always remain against those who love so they must unite without thinking about anybody but only about their love. They decided to walk on the path of love leaving hatred aside. I hope you will enjoy this poem. Happy Valentine Day. Teri Bahon Mein

Haiku : Rose Day

Haiku : Rose Day Delicate like love, rose has so many colors to express feelings.

Maraz-e-Ishq - Ibrahim Zauq

Maraz-e-Ishq (Ailment of Love) - Ibrahim Zauq First post of this year starts with the translation of Mohammad Ibrahim Zauq' s ' Maraz-e-Ishq Jise Ho Use Kya Yaad Rahe' which means one's who is suffering from love's ailment remember's nothing. This feeling is expressed in this longest ghazal translated by me. Here he is saying that lover forget god in the love of beloved even though beloved don't care about his feelings. For him beloved becomes the god. I hope you will like this ' Ghazal '. For more on this ghazal visit : Maraz-e-Ishq Jise Ho Use Kya Yaad Rahe Marz-e-Ishq Jise Ho Use Kya Yaad Rahe, Na Dawa Yaad Rahe Aur Na Dua Yaad Rahe. Nothing remembered to the person suffering from love's ailment, Recollects neither the prayers nor the medicinal treatment. Tum Jise Yaad Karo Phir Use K

Hum Aah Bhi Bharte Hain To Ho Jaate Hain Badnaam

(Hum Aah Bhi Bharte Hain To Ho Jaate Hain Badnaam) - Akbar Allahabadi The last sher (couplet) of this Ghazal by Akbar Allahabadi is very famous and often quoted in movies and routine conversations. This ghazal is a display of love and lament. He said that mere meeting eyes with her sparkle many emotions in him. He further praises her beloved and prays to god to keep away from love. In the last stanza he explains his pain that even her huge crimes get unnoticed (like leaving her lovers to die) while his mere sigh of love defamed him. I have tried to translate it and hope that you will like it. Gamza Nahin Hota Ki Ishara Nahin Hota, Aankh Unse Jo Milti Hai To Kya-Kya Nahin Hota. (Hum Charagon Ki Tarah Shaam Se Jal Jaate Hain) - Like Lamps I Too From Evening Burns in Fire - Qateel Shifai This ghazal from Qateel Shifai is a love longing ghazal . The lover is burning in the flames of unfulfilled love which is eating him from the inside. This ghazal whose shair (couplet) are famous in popular culture is translated by me here. You can visit ' Hum Charagon Ki Tarah ' for better understanding of this ghazal. Garmi-ae-Hasrat-ae-Nakaam Se Jal Jaate Hain, Hum Charagon Ki Tarah Shaam Se Jal Jaate Hain. I burn in the flames of unfulfilled desire, like lamps I too from evening burns in fire. Shama Jis Aag Mein Jalti Hai Numaish Ke Liye, Hum Usi Aag Mein Gumnaam Se Jal Jaate Hain. In that fire in which a candle burns for exhibition, I burn in that fire without any description.
